
The Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) primarily provides direct
services and support to women impacted by violence, including sexual assault and/or sex
trafficking. The SAVA reports to the Director of Victim Services. This position works closely
with all Asha advocates. The work has 5 key components that are developed through direct
services: *survivor driven, *trauma-informed, *African American cultural competence,
*face-to-face/mobile advocacy, and *community engagement.
Driven by these guiding principles, Asha Victim Services Advocates provide trauma-informed care to Asha program participants, coordinates resources, and makes appropriate referrals based on their supportive, cooperative partnership with the participant/survivor to assist them on their journey to safety, stability, healing, and independence. The SAVA will assist in coordinating resources to meet immediate survivor needs, including toiletries, personal items, baby supplies, clothing, shoes, and food. This position will also assist with the coordination, implementation, and facilitation of the Sister Circle Support Groups, and is responsible for assisting in the monthly, quarterly and annual report generation and submission as required by funding sources and is responsible for assuring all client information is entered weekly in agency’s secure database. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Overall, the SAVA will ensure that victim safety is paramount.
The individual hired must have or work actively to develop a deep and comprehensive
understanding of the dynamics of sexual assault and sex trafficking, domestic violence, and
intimate partner violence and build a working understanding and appreciation of Asha’s holistic
model of service that is trauma-informed for all victims as well as culturally responsive to
African American populations. Individuals with lived experience related to DV/IPV/SA or
community violence are encouraged to apply. This full-time position will remain open until it is filled.
REQUIRED:
• Conduct emergency/crisis counseling with survivors (in-person, virtual, or phone)
• Coordinate safety services including housing and other resources
• Conduct client intakes, lethality assessments, and case planning
• Assist in facilitation of Sister Circle Support Groups
• Respond to requests for help in a timely manner
• Meet survivors in safe community locations/Flexibility with hours
• Maintain accurate and confidential participant records
• Enter client information weekly into the agency database
• Participate in ongoing training related to gender-based violence and trauma-informed care
• Attend committee, and community meetings to strengthen referral networks
PREFERRED:
• Experience working with women victims of DV/SA/HT
• Crisis and Case management skills and Problem solving
• Experience providing trauma informed, culturally responsive services to African American women
• Knowledge of community resources, comprehension of the criminal justice system, counseling and communication skills, and ability to advocate for the needs of victims
The starting Salary range for this full time position is $22.00 hr. to $25.00 hr. depending on
experience.
