Saving Our Sons

A young black man in profile in front of a black child straight on.

Many of us were taught that strength means handling everything on our own. Staying silent. Never showing vulnerability. Pushing through stress, anger, disappointment, or pain without asking for help.

But carrying everything alone doesn't make us stronger. It can leave us isolated, overwhelmed, and struggling to manage the pressures of everyday life.

Real strength looks different.

Strength isn't about never asking for help or proving yourself through anger or control. Real strength is taking responsibility, managing emotions, building healthy relationships, and making choices that protect your future.

Saving Our Sons provides young men and adult men with the support, guidance, and skills they need to build healthier lives, stronger relationships, and safer communities.

The Umoja Dock

A place to pause before everything changes.

Sometimes the most important step is simply having a safe place to pause.

Umoja Dock provides temporary housing, guidance, and support for men who need time, stability, and resources to move forward. It offers an opportunity to step away from crisis, reconnect with support, and begin building a healthier future.

  • Short-Term Housing (48 to 72 hours) - A calm, fully furnished and 24/7 staffed space to remove oneself from escalating relationship conflict.
  • Trauma-Informed Peer Support/Evaluation/Assessment - Facilitated by trained navigators with lived experience and cultural alignment.
  • Healing-Focused Resources - Group discussions, drug and mental health referrals, emotional regulation tools, and reentry planning, job assistance and goal setting with genuine support.
  • Accountability Without Criminalization - Umoja Dock encourages reflection and responsibility—not punishment—while supporting long-term change.
