1. Peer Navigator / Case Manager

Program: Asha Family Services Ujima Men’s Program – The Umoja Dock

Location: Milwaukee, WI (Community-Based & Asha Offices)

Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly (40 hours/week)

Reports To: Director of Men’s Services


About Asha Family Services, Inc.

Asha Family Services (Asha) is a 35+ year old culturally specific, trauma-informed organization

dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence (DV), intimate partner violence (IPV)

sexual assault (SA), and community violence (CV). Our work centers healing, accountability,

and community-based solutions recognizing that healing is a journey, not a destination. Asha is

This position will essentially serve The Umoja Dock program that is part of Asha’s Ujima Men’s

Program and provides crisis stabilization, support, and pathways to change for men navigating

domestic violence, housing instability, and related challenges. This program works to ensure the

safety of all victims domestic violence.


Position Summary

The Peer Navigator/Case Manager plays a critical role in providing direct support, crisis

intervention, and care coordination for men engaged in Asha’s services, including those staying

at the Umoja Dock.

This position works alongside participants to stabilize immediate needs, support behavior

change, and connect individuals to resources such as housing, employment, and supportive

services. The role requires a strong understanding of domestic violence, accountability, trauma,

and culturally responsive engagement, particularly with African American men.

This is a hands-on, community-based role requiring flexibility, compassion, and the ability to

respond to evolving client needs.


Key Responsibilities:

Direct Client Support & Advocacy

• Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and ongoing case management

• Conduct intakes and assessments to identify participant needs and risks

• Support participants with access to housing, employment, healthcare, and other resources

• Provide referrals and follow-up to ensure continuity of care

• Maintain a non-judgmental, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach

Program Support & Coordination

• Assist with day-to-day coordination of services within the Umoja Dock

• Support participants’ basic needs (e.g., food, clothing, hygiene items)

• Assist in facilitating or co-facilitating Ujima Men’s groups and other programming• Participate in case staffing and team/project coordination meetings

• Support partnerships and collaboration with community providers

Documentation & Reporting

• Enter client data accurately and consistently into agency systems

• Assist with monthly and annual reporting requirements

• Support tracking of program outcomes and deliverables

Training & Community Engagement

• Participate in ongoing domestic violence, IPV, and CVI training

• Support outreach, public awareness events, and community education efforts

• Engage in professional development and skill-building opportunities

Team & Organizational Support

• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and agency activities

• Support fundraising and community engagement efforts as needed

• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and respect in all interactions

Schedule & Work Environment

• Full-time position (40 hours/week)

• Flexible schedule required, including occasional evenings and weekends

• On-call responsiveness may be required for client emergencies

• Work occurs in office, community settings, and program housing site

• Some local travel required

Responsibilities

Required:

• Experience working with individuals impacted by domestic violence, community

violence, or related systems

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, particularly African American men

• Ability to manage crisis situations with calmness and professionalism

• Basic computer and software skills such as Microsoft, and documentation skills

• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance

Preferred:

• Lived experience or credible messenger experience strongly valued

• Experience in case management, peer support, or advocacy

• Knowledge of domestic violence, trauma, and behavior change approaches

• Familiarity with Milwaukee-area resources and systems

Starting Pay

The starting Salary range for this full time position is $21.00 hr. to $23.00 hr. depending on

experience.

2. Sexual Assault Victim Advocate

The Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) primarily provides direct

services and support to women impacted by violence, including sexual assault and/or sex

trafficking. The SAVA reports to the Director of Victim Services. This position works closely

with all Asha advocates. The work has 5 key components that are developed through direct

services: *survivor driven, *trauma-informed, *African American cultural competence,

*face-to-face/mobile advocacy, and *community engagement. 

Driven by these guiding principles, Asha Victim Services Advocates provide trauma-informed care to Asha program participants, coordinates resources, and makes appropriate referrals based on their supportive, cooperative partnership with the participant/survivor to assist them on their journey to safety, stability, healing, and independence. The SAVA will assist in coordinating resources to meet immediate survivor needs, including toiletries, personal items, baby supplies, clothing, shoes, and food. This position will also assist with the coordination, implementation, and facilitation of the Sister Circle Support Groups, and is responsible for assisting in the monthly, quarterly and annual report generation and submission as required by funding sources and is responsible for assuring all client information is entered weekly in agency’s secure database. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Overall, the SAVA will ensure that victim safety is paramount.

The individual hired must have or work actively to develop a deep and comprehensive

understanding of the dynamics of sexual assault and sex trafficking, domestic violence, and

intimate partner violence and build a working understanding and appreciation of Asha’s holistic

model of service that is trauma-informed for all victims as well as culturally responsive to

African American populations. 

Individuals with lived experience related to DV/IPV/SA or community violence are encouraged to apply.

• Assist in facilitation of Sister Circle Support Groups

• Respond to requests for help in a timely manner

• Meet survivors in safe community locations/Flexibility with hours

• Maintain accurate and confidential participant records

• Enter client information weekly into the agency database

• Participate in ongoing training related to gender-based violence and trauma-informed care

• Attend committee, and community meetings to strengthen referral networks


PREFERRED:

• Experience working with women victims of DV/SA/HT

• Crisis and Case management skills and Problem solving

• Experience providing trauma informed, culturally responsive services to African American women

• Knowledge of community resources, comprehension of the criminal justice system, counseling and communication skills, and ability to advocate for the needs of victims

Starting Pay

The starting Salary range for this full time position is $22.00 hr. to $25.00 hr. depending on

experience.

3. DV Victim Services Advocate (DV/VSA)

The DV Victim Services Advocate (DV/VSA) primarily provides direct services and support to women impacted by interpersonal violence, including domestic violence/Intimate Partner Violence (DV/IPV), sexual assault and/or sex trafficking. This position reports to the Director of Victim Services and works closely with all Asha advocates to better coordinate victim safety. DV/VSA with the Advocate Team is responsible for providing direct victim services and case management to women and families seeking help from violence and abuse. 

This position’s work centers around 5 key components that are developed through staff training and direct services:  *survivor driven, *trauma-informed, *African American cultural competence, *face-to-face/mobile advocacy, and *community engagement. 

Driven by these guiding principles, the Victim Services Advocate  provides compassionate trauma-informed services to walk-ins, Asha program participants; coordinates resources, and makes appropriate referrals based on supportive, cooperative partnership with the participant/survivor to assist them toward a journey to safety, stability, healing, and independence. The position will also assist in the coordination of activity from time-to-time related to securing victim needs, e.g. toiletries, baby items, clothing, shoes, food and the like. This position will also assist with the coordination, implementation, and facilitation of the Sister Circle Support Groups, and is responsible for assisting in the monthly and annual generation and submission of Reports as required by funding sources. As well, this position is responsible for assuring all their client intake information is entered regularly in the agency database. Victim safety and client confidentiality is paramount.

•  Mobile Advocacy - Meet survivors on-line, at office or in safe community locations/Flexibility with hours.  

•  Maintain accurate and confidential participant records  

•  Enter client information weekly into the agency database  

•  Participate in ongoing training related to gender-based violence and trauma-informed care  

•  Attend all staff meetings and training and relevant committee, and community meetings to strengthen referral networks  

• Respond to requests for help in a timely manner

• Meet survivors in safe community locations/Flexibility with hours

• Maintain accurate and confidential participant records

• Enter client information weekly into the agency database

• Participate in ongoing training related to gender-based violence and trauma-informed care

• Attend committee, and community meetings to strengthen referral networks


PREFERRED:

·  Experience working with women victims of DV/SA/HT 

·  Crisis management skills  

·  Experience providing trauma informed, culturally responsive services to African American women.  

·  Knowledge of community resources, comprehension of the criminal justice system, counseling, and communication skills, and ability to advocate for the needs of victims.   

·  Experience working with computers and current programs. Microsoft Office products, including spreadsheets and Apple products (such as an iPad). 

·  Experience using social media platforms.  

·  A valid driver's license and proof of Insurance is required

Starting Pay

The starting Salary range for this full time position is $22.00 hr. to $25.00 hr. depending on

experience.
